Fall Maintenance Checklist
When it comes to home ownership, regular maintenance is the most important thing to keep up with on a regular basis. If you devote the time to stick to a regular home maintenance schedule, you can save yourself a LOT of time and money in the long run by preventing small problems from becoming big ones.
Now that the kids are back in school and our focus has shifted from Summer to Fall, start planning on some weekend maintenance projects. Here is our list of Fall Home Maintenance things to tackle.
- Clean gutters & storm drains. Make sure downspouts carry water at least 3 feet away from house.
- When setting clocks back, change batteries in smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors. Check fire extinguishers.
- Clean chimney of soot buildup; make sure fireplace doors fit tightly.
- Clean windows. Note air leaks and apply putty, caulking, or weather-stripping where cracks appear.
- Have your HVAC system serviced by a licensed technician.
- Check supports & foundation on porches, patios and decks for rotting wood or separation.
- Winterize outdoor irrigation systems to prevent freezing.
